About Me

From a very young age I had a deep curiosity for the world that I expressed through writing. It began as fiction and as I grew and matured, so did my writing. I began to write essays and event evaluations. My freshman year of college, WCU experienced a minor scandal. As the scandal unfolded and more information came out I dove deeper to find more context and details. I updated my mentor daily about what I was finding and what it meant. This led to her suggesting I look more into blogging and journalism.

Heeding her advice, I began a small blog where I experimented with journalistic writing. I found a passion and knew I wanted to learn more. This blog marked the beginning of my journalism career. After I created the blog, I joined The Western Carolina Journalist, a web page for communication students to practice journalism, and declared my major. Within the same semester, I was offered a position as a staff writer for The Western Carolinian and joined Society of Professional Journalists at WCU. Since, I have been promoted to senior reporter at The Western Carolinian and appointed event coordinator for SPJ.

In high school I was a member of DECA, an international, competitive club for young leaders. The club began my exploration in the world of leadership and marketing. I competed in the club my sophomore and junior year of high school until COVID-19 removed the ability for students to compete. Both years I placed within the top 3 statewide and qualified for internationals. Competing gave me firsthand experience in marketing and event coordinating.

My freshman year of college I found I could improve my event coordinating skills further in Last Minute Productions. I developed a passion in planning events and finding the correlation between hosting events and marketing. While working as marketing coordinator for Department of Campus Activities (DCA), I created PR campaigns, executed social media marketing tactics and created new ways for DCA to collect feedback from students.
